In recent years Taiwan’s poultry products have been enjoying ever greater success in foreign markets. With Council of Agriculture guidance, processing facilities have acquired CAS certification. Three days before undergoing processing at automated facilities, each bird undergoes meticulous examination for drug-free verification, and government-accredited veterinarians conduct strict sanitation and hygiene inspections, with each bird examined meticulously. After undergoing automated slaughter the meat is subjected to a rapid-cooling process within four hours, bringing its temperature to under 4°C, controlling microbial contamination and maintaining optimal conditions for preservation of meat quality. By taking such a multi-faceted, high-standard approach to inspection and quarantine, the consumer eats with peace of mind and Taiwan’s export sales rise to greater heights with each passing year.

With the support of the Executive Yuan’s Council of Agriculture, production of poultry products in Taiwan have been rising, prices falling, and the range of breeds cultivated broadened. The breeding techniques utilized by producers have matured and modernized automated processing systems put in place, and when local consumers see the “CAS Premium Agricultural Product” marking on a poultry product they are reassured. The COA has also been vigorously proactive in opening up overseas markets, assisting local breeders and processing facilities to upgrade operations and implementing a meat-product certification regime. It has brought poultry products within a comprehensive tracing system that includes breeders, origin of chicks, breed, type of feed used, medicines used and a schedule of when administered, slaughtering and processing schedule, and other pertinent detail—a complete and transparent record of each bird. The breeding process has been made much more efficient and, for the consumer, purchase of a healthy and savory product is assured.
